Considering depth of field and image stabilization, the noise and resolution penalty for the smaller sensor is probably minimal. Less reliance noise reduction is definitely a good thing to me.īut how much more does the smaller sensor rely on noise reduction is the real question. I have never used noise reduction in software. I have no issues with LR sharpening, but I'm also not playing around trying to mask or blur parts of the image either - pretty well everything I do is a global adjustment. I bring all my files into LR, click on my three standard presets, adjust the White slider to taste, and then run the files through DxO PR2 before exporting as JPEGs. Lightroom is very good except for sharpening and noise. Every time I try DXO it is just a crazy interface that I can’t figure out. I have used lightroom since before it was lightroom.

Lightroom in general is the weakest for most features except their exceptional masking tool. The sharpening in DXO isn't the ultimate.

Without overdoing it (which most tend to do with Topaz) I can bring a file to life after it's otherwise been prepared.

The sharpening in DXO is of no comparison. I prefer to use DXO Photolab 6 for all the processing until the last, where I bring it into Topaz Sharpen AI for that last detail. Whilst it will still be too slow if I am processing a lot of images for deadlines, it's definitely a product I will use in the future, even on my Nikon filesĬan someone be use pure raw and send the dng to lightroom for processing then to topaz AI for sharpening the dng?Ī simpler alternative would be to use DxO PhotoLab 6 for everything, and cut out LR and Topaz. The thing is, my full-frame images shot at comparable ISO's need the same DxO processing to get the look I want, so for me, it's pretty much a wash.

Well, it only takes an extra 15 seconds to run an image through DxO PureRAW2, which I find works much better than Topaz DeNoise AI, but if you have to submit hundreds of images at a time, obviously that adds up.
